Bahá'í Gardens Guide
A Stairway to Heaven: Ascend into Serenity at the Bahá'í Gardens Guide
The Bahá'í Gardens in Haifa are a breathtaking testament to beauty and tranquility, a must-see for any visitor to Israel. These meticulously landscaped terraces cascade down the northern slope of Mount Carmel, offering stunning panoramic views of the city, the Galilee hills, and the Mediterranean Sea. More than just a garden, it's a place for reflection, contemplation, and appreciation of the harmony between nature and human artistry. Prepare to be captivated by the vibrant colors, the perfectly manicured lawns, and the overall sense of peace that permeates this sacred space. The Bahá'í Gardens surround the Shrine of the Báb, one of the holiest places for followers of the Baháʼí Faith. The Báb, considered a forerunner to Baháʼu'lláh (the founder of the Baháʼí Faith), was executed in 1850. His remains were eventually brought to Haifa and interred in the Shrine, which was completed in 1953. The gardens themselves were designed and constructed over many years, reflecting the Baháʼí belief in the unity of all religions and the importance of beauty in spiritual expression. The design incorporates elements from various garden traditions, creating a unique and harmonious whole. Visitors can explore the gardens through guided tours (highly recommended for a deeper understanding of the site's history and significance) or by walking along designated pathways. Remember to dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) out of respect for the site's religious importance. While picnicking is not allowed within the gardens, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the surrounding areas where you can enjoy a meal with a view. Don't forget your camera – the photo opportunities are endless!
